Craig A. Allen, FCAS, FCIA

Expert Witness:
Actuary & Forensic Economist
His expertise in forensic economics is built on a foundation of comprehensive experience in professional liability insurance. For over twelve years, Mr. Allen served the legal profession of Ontario, Canada as Vice President and Actuary at LAWPRO, the profession’s liability insurer of its 20,000 lawyers in private practice. Litigation support was among Mr. Allen’s contributions, in applying his analytical and data management capabilities to the resolution, financial reporting, risk management, and funding of a $300 million portfolio of 3,500 complex malpractice claims.

Inspired by his service at LAWPRO, Mr. Allen has since worked with insurers and lawyers in independent practice, providing expert testimony and consulting services in forensic economics and actuarial science. Since 2005, Mr. Allen has been extensively involved in the National Association of Forensic Economics (NAFE), where he has made some 25 presentations at association conferences.

In 2014, he was elected to a 3-year term as NAFE’s Eastern Vice President. During his term, he organized seminar sessions that covered the commercial backdrop of litigation, including liability insurance and litigation lending. Since 2015, he has been chair of the Actuarial Evidence Committee of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, where he has authored a number of the institute’s submissions to governments and has built bridges between property-casualty insurance actuaries and those actuaries who provide expert testimony and litigation support. He serves as a Trend Advisor for the Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS).

Mr. Allen is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries. He holds a degree in mathematics and a diploma in urban land economics, from the University of British Columbia.
